Building Better Healthcare Awards 2019 Finalists Announced

The 21st annual “Building Better Healthcare Awards” ceremony is being held at The Brewery in London on October 30th. The awards are recognised nationally attracting attendees from across the NHS, including directors, architects, designers and senior buyers.

This year sees the introduction of an award for ‘Best Modular/ Mobile Healthcare Facility’ and Catfoss are extremely proud to have not just one but two projects selected for the final of this prestigious new category:

  • Royal Derby Hospital 28 Bed Winter Pressures Ward
  • Queen’s Hospital Burton– 3 Storey building to provide Winter Pressures Ward, Outpatients, Breast Care, Oncology, Urology, Surgical Theatres & Diagnostic imaging

Scope of Works: Catfoss undertook both projects as main contractor delivering turnkey solutions through close working relationships with the existing teams at the sites.

Solution:  Building designs were developed and agreed with the Trust, bespoke steel framed modules were then constructed offsite prior to delivery and craning into position employing production line quality controls for the structure. This methodology also maximised cost efficiencies, reduced programme time for both projects to a minimum and ensured the facilities provided were fully regulation compliant.

Site Impact: Offsite construction and delivery not only facilitated rapid delivery and completion of the scheme’s but also dramatically reduced any disruption to the day to day running of the hospitals.

It’s a privilege to be able to work within the healthcare industry delivering ward, clinical, retail and reception spaces to assist hospitals like Derby & Queen’s deliver fully compliant new occupancy that supports patients, visitors & staff.

Following delivery of the 28bed ward to Derby, Paul Brooks (MSc), Director of Patient Experience, Estates & Facilities Management at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust commented….

Catfoss were appointed as a contractor but quickly became a crucial partner in delivery of this new facility: this was 100% the right choice of company and they are now an integral part of the team delivering the Trusts 5year estates strategy”
